When Gary Coukell from ICMS inquired about our ability to analyze wheat spikes for Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) and quantify the level of infection, we responded as we do with many clients by requesting samples for the assessment. Typically, we receive physical samples for analysis. However, we asked for images instead due to the potential risks of infected wheat spikes. ICMS provided us with several high-quality wheat spike images captured by Ling Guo, a laboratory technologist at ICMS. The results of our analysis were encouraging, demonstrating the ability to detect accurate FHB levels in wheat spikes within 30 seconds per sample.
This FHB Spike Application is now available as part of our Vision of Things® approach. It enables customers to analyze various agriculture and food products in different forms, from particles and big parts to powders, liquids, and surfaces. This significantly reduces the time and cost of data collection and provides high-resolution and rich datasets. Typically, this involves thousands of samples per season or a year with a straightforward ROI (Return on Investment).
